Lewis Miley and Kieran Trippier react as Newcastle player sends heartfelt goodbye message
Newcastle United midfielder Lewis Miley has reacted to a new message from the departing Travis Hernes after his permanent exit was confirmed.
Eddie Howe is set to orchestrate a real summer of change at St James’ Park after such a disappointing 2025-26 campaign.
Several high-profile stars have already moved on following the end of the season, with Anthony Gordon going to Barcelona and Kieran Trippier leaving as a free agent.
Newcastle then confirmed on Wednesday that young midfielder Hernes had left the club permanently to join Dutch club FC Groningen.
Hernes is only a small part of Newcastle’s transfer plans, but has taken to social media to express his gratitude to those he leaves behind on Tyneside.

The Jamaican-born midfielder joined Newcastle from Shrewsbury Town in September 2023 and was handed a senior debut against the A-League All Stars at the end of his debut season.
He was sent out on loan to Danish side Aalborg last January and then Eredivisie outfit Groningen at the start of this campaign.
Hernes only made 11 league appearances in the Netherlands amid injury issues, but has now signed for Groningen on a permanent deal.
He took to Instagram on Wednesday to announce his Magpies exit, saying: “My time at NUFC has come to an end. I would like to thank all the staff and players for giving me the opportunity to represent such a massive club.
“I am grateful for everything I have learned during my time here and for the memories made along the way. I wish everyone at Newcastle United all the very best for the future.”
Hernes’ message was liked by Newcastle midfielder Miley, as well as Sean Longstaff, John Ruddy and Sean Neave, while Kieran Trippier replied to say: “Good luck lil bro.”
Who else could leave Newcastle this summer?
The Magpies confirmed in their recent retained list that Ruddy, Max Thompson, Matt Targett and loanee Aaron Ramsdale will all leave the club upon the expiry of their respective deals this summer.
While numerous low-key exits are set to happen, Newcastle supporters will be anticipating a few more high-profile departures in the coming months.
Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Newcastle will accept offers for Harvey Barnes amid serious interest from Aston Villa.
Bruno Guimaraes has also been linked away, but Sandro Tonali seems the most likely of their key midfielders to move on this summer.
Of their strikers, Yoane Wissa is the leading candidate to depart after an injury-plagued debut season on Tyneside.
