Liverpool make Darwin Nunez transfer decision amid Newcastle update
Darwin Nunez is attracting interest from Premier League clubs including Newcastle United as he edges closer to leaving Al-Hilal this summer.
The Uruguay international endured a tough campaign with the Saudi Pro League side following a £53million move from Liverpool.
He helped the Reds win the Premier League title before leaving, and built a strong reputation for his impressive athleticism and impact off the bench.
He last featured for Al-Hilal back in February after being among those deregistered from their squad following the conclusion of the winter transfer window.
Liverpool are not set to move for his services soon, but as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, numerous Premier League clubs remain keen on a move to sign Nunez.
He registered nine goals and five assists in 24 matches across all competitions for Al-Hilal last term.
While Liverpool have been heavily linked, they are focusing on bolstering their wing options rather than adding depth at centre-forward.
Darwin Nunez on the radar of several Premier League clubs
Nunez has the chance to put himself in the shop window by impressing for Uruguay at the World Cup this summer.
He still has two years left on his Al-Hilal contract, but could see that deal ripped up so he is able to leave on a free transfer ahead of next term.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "With Nunez's situation at Al-Hilal, it does seem likely that he will leave having been dropped by the Saudi Arabian club for the second half of the season.
"There is talk that his contract could even be cancelled as well - what I do know is that a number of Premier League clubs are looking at him including Newcastle.
"But Liverpool are not currently planning to re-sign Nunez, they are looking at other forwards."
Which PL clubs have been linked to Nunez in recent months?
The 26-year-old scored just seven times in 47 games across all competitions in his final season at Liverpool.
He was a regular scorer in the two seasons prior, however, with 15 strikes in his debut season and another 18 in 2023-24.
Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Newcastle are keen on Nunez to bolster their striker ranks.
