Newcastle should reject Joe Willock bid after unexpected Liverpool twist
Newcastle United suffered a heartbreaking end to their match against Liverpool as Dominik Szoboszlai scored a late penalty to force the hosts to settle for a 2-2 draw.
However, there were plenty of huge positives from the match, including Joe Willock’s brilliant and somewhat unexpectedly effective cameo from the bench.
The 27-year-old midfielder netted the Magpies’ second against Liverpool with a wonderful run and finish into the bottom corner.
This performance comes amid reports that Besiktas have submitted a bid for Willock as they look to secure his signature before the transfer window closes.
The midfielder is believed to be the Turkish club’s top target as they look to bring in reinforcements this summer.
However, Newcastle would be wise to reject any bid for Willock after his wonderful display on Sunday.
Joe Willock shines against Liverpool
After a poor summer transfer window to date, fans were pessimistic going into the match against Liverpool.
However, on Sunday, the squad was fantastic, with plenty of players stepping up, including Willock.
According to Fotmob on 23 August, the midfielder completed all seven of his passes, created one chance and one big chance, completed every dribble he attempted, made three tackles and won three of his six attempted ground duels.
As a result, he was no doubt one of the most influential players on the pitch, and fully deserved his goal.
Now, if Fabrizio Romano’s report about a Besiktas bid is true then Newcastle simply have to reject it.
Even if Willock is not set to be a key player at the Magpies this season, he proved against Liverpool that he can be an asset and turn up when called upon.
Therefore, the club would be wise to keep him around this campaign, especially after overseeing so many departures in recent weeks.
What other business could Newcastle complete this summer?
Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Manchester City would be willing to sell Nico Gonzalez to Newcastle this summer.
The Manchester club will sanction a sale once they have brought a replacement through the door.
The midfielder is not set to feature in the club’s plans this campaign and was an unused substitute in the 2-1 victory against Bournemouth on Sunday.
However, it remains to be seen if Newcastle are able to secure the signing in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.
