Newcastle well placed to end their dire Bournemouth record as clear weakness is exposed

Newcastle United have a golden chance to pick up back-to-back Premier League victories on Saturday when they host Bournemouth at St James’ Park.

The Magpies have had an excellent start to their Premier League season, and have picked up four points from their first two matches, despite playing both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

Now, with Bournemouth up next, Matthias Jaissle will be looking to continue this fine form against one of the club’s bogey sides.

In their last eight meetings in the Premier League, Newcastle are winless, drawing five and losing three.

However, Bournemouth have a clear weakness when it comes to defending set pieces, which has caused all types of problems in recent seasons.

Now, Jaissle could look to exploit this to help the Magpies pick up another victory.

Bournemouth are awful at defending set-pieces 

According to BBC Sport on 4 September, in the last two seasons, Bournemouth have conceded the most set-piece goals at 28 in the Premier League.

This has continued into the new campaign, with the Cherries conceding from a corner in both matches so far this season.

This is a weakness that Newcastle simply have to take advantage of.

Jaissle should encourage his side to win as many free kicks and corners as possible at St James’ Park.

If he can do this, it should lead to at least one goal, which would put the hosts in an excellent position to win the match.

Who is the favourite to win in Newcastle vs Bournemouth?

According to Opta on 4 September, Newcastle are the heavy favourites to come out with a victory at St James’ Park.

The supercomputer has given the Magpies a 43.9 per cent chance of taking all three points, compared to Bournemouth’s 31.2 per cent chance.

The match is no doubt a big opportunity for the Magpies, given that the Cherries have yet to win a single game this season.

However, it will no doubt be a difficult game for the hosts, especially given their recent record against Bournemouth.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen who will come out on top on Saturday as both sides look to come away with three points in the early morning Premier League clash.
