Yoane Wissa's full stats vs Bournemouth show Newcastle have a serious problem

Newcastle United managed to rescue a dramatic draw on Saturday as they drew 2-2 with Bournemouth at St James’ Park.

Jacob Ramsey’s late goal ensured the Magpies remained unbeaten this season as they came from two goals down to rescue a point.

However, while the result will feel like a victory to many fans, the clash showcased many of the team’s issues.

Yoane Wissa was just one player who underperformed, with the striker being largely anonymous throughout.

The Democratic Republic of Congo international had been in form going into the match, and netted against Tottenham in the 2-0 victory.

However, his stats against the Cherries have shown exactly why he is no long-term solution to their striker issues.

How bad was Yoane Wissa vs Bournemouth?

Despite producing some excellent displays against both Liverpool and Tottenham earlier this season, Wissa was back to his old self against Bournemouth.

Overall, he did little, and he was perhaps fortunate to play the full 90 minutes.

According to Fotmob on 5 September, he did not have a single shot, had a 0.00 xG, completed just 77 per cent of his passes, created zero chances and only won one of his five aerial duels.

If Newcastle are to get back into Europe, they need a striker who can put in great performances every single week.

Wissa is clearly incapable of achieving this and therefore the club must look into the market for long-term solutions to this problem.

William Osula’s return will be a big boost for Newcastle

William Osula being out until mid-September with a knock has no doubt been a blow for Newcastle.

The striker would have surely come off the bench today given Wissa’s performance if he were fit.

This could have allowed the Magpies to take three points from the tie instead of one, as it would have given them a true focal point.

As a result, the sooner Osula is back, the better, as Newcastle simply need more options available up top at present.

However, it remains to be seen if he is able to perform once he is back in the squad as the Magpies hunt for European football once more.
