Newcastle fans say the same thing about Nick Woltemade transfer getting done
Newcastle fans have urged the club to sell Nick Woltemade with new interest in his services reportedly emerging from Borussia Dortmund.
Woltemade struggled to make his mark on Tyneside last season following a club-record £69million move from Stuttgart.
The German forward started well under Eddie Howe but saw his form tail off as Newcastle struggled for form as a team.
He was thrust into an unfamiliar attacking midfield role towards the end of the campaign, ending the season with 11 goals and four assists in 51 appearances.
Woltemade has reiterated his desire to stay at Newcastle this summer, but new manager Matthias Jaissle may have other ideas.
Fresh reports of Dortmund's interest has fans excited that he could be about to leave the club ahead of the upcoming season.
Newcastle fans want Nick Woltemade to join Borussia Dortmund
Jaissle is keen on adding depth to his attacking midfield ranks, while he is set to enter the season with Will Osula and Yoane Wissa as his main centre-forward options.
Woltemade struggled for minutes at the World Cup with Germany and did not score in any of the three pre-season friendlies he featured in for Newcastle.
The best form of his career so far has been in the Bundesliga, so news of Dortmund's interest in completing a loan deal has piqued the interest of Newcastle fans.
In fact, many are keen to see the deal go through, with one taking to X to say: "No-brainer, this. Likeable kid, but nowhere near good enough sadly."
While another supporter said: "Needs to happen with an option to buy. He isn't going to make it here, unfortunately."
And another fan added: "Good riddance. He is a Championship midfielder at best...no way he's Premier League quality."
PL icon has backed Woltemade to improve under Jaissle
Sources previously revealed to Football Insider that Newcastle were not planning to part ways with Woltemade or teammate Wissa under Howe, but those plans may have changed with Jaissle at the helm.
The 24-year-old may feel like the arrival of a compatriot has boosted his chances of more game time, though, and former Newcastle and Liverpool star Dietmar Hamann has backed him to improve this season.
Hamann insisted that Woltemade's style of play will suit how Jaissle wants to set his side up in a recent interview with SunSport, saying: “The way Jaissle likes to play always suits a target man like Woltemade. I was very surprised when he started the season so well and then disappeared for pretty much the rest of it.
“There were reports that he’s not settled in Newcastle, which I can’t really understand because there aren’t many better football cities in England, let alone in Europe. Woltemade’s a very capable player, technically very gifted and brings others into play. It’s very important to have quick players around him. He had that with Gordon last season."
