Newcastle regret Amanda Staveley exit: 'It's been a mess since she left'

Newcastle United will wish that Amanda Staveley was still a co-owner at St James' Park as the club continues to struggle.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the 53-year-old's potential move to West Ham United could stir emotions in the North East.

Staveley and her husband, Mehrdad Ghodoussi, are pushing to get back into football, two years on from their departure at St James' Park.

Daniel Kretinsky has made a move to keep the former Newcastle co-owner away from the London Stadium, but rumours of an impending purchase continue to spread in East London.

Since parting ways with the Magpies, the club has certainly struggled, losing Alexander Isak is frustrating circumstances last summer to a total explosion ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Eddie Howe has been joined by Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and, soon-to-be, Bruno Guimaraes, leaving the club in a very difficult position.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson has hinted at regrets from those at Newcastle, with previous reports that Staveley was pushed out of the club.

"Staveley and PCP are, you have to say, quite serious about this situation. She's clearly desperate to get back into football for whatever reason," he said.

"She seems to really love it, watching the interview with Bloomberg. When you look at, in fairness, what's happened to Newcastle since she left...

"You can't help but think that she did a good job. The whole thing has really been a mess more or less since she left."

Now, West Ham could be the latest club to benefit from Staveley's experience and wealth, but only if Kretinsky allows her and a consortium to invest.

Staveley's interest in West Ham appeared to come out of nowhere, with some struggling to believe that the Championship club could pull off such a move.

Now, however, it is Kretinsky who is stopping the new investment, supposedly being taken by surprise by the Gold Family.

It was understood that the Czech billionaire would purchase the Gold Family's 25.1 per cent stake, seeing him become the decision-maker at the London Stadium.

While he has made some key decisions this summer, the deal is yet to go through, and now Staveley is attempting to hijack the deal before the 2026-27 campaign.
