Newcastle could make a move for AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori as Eddie Howe looks to bolster his centre-back options, sources have told Football Insider.

Howe is looking to add some quality to his defensive ranks this summer after Newcastle's disappointing 2025-26 campaign.

The Magpies' recruitment drive is set to accelerate in the coming weeks after some high-profile sales.

Their aging backline has made the Newcastle manager keen to add to his backline options, with Sven Botman and Malick Thiaw also eyed by other clubs.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Tomori may be targeted by Newcastle if Milan show that they are open to a sale.

He has already been linked away from the club this summer, as he enters the final year of his contract, with newly-promoted Coventry City believed to be keen on a move.

Newcastle tipped to make a move for Fikayo Tomori amid Eddie Howe search

Tomori has won a Serie A title and a Supercoppa Italiana during his five-year spell with the Italian giants.

He has been a regular at the back since joining, with 37 appearances in all competitions last season as they finished fifth in Serie A.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "I think if there's a possibility that he could leave Milan, Newcastle, along with number of Premier League clubs, will be interested in Tomori.

"He's done really well out there in Italy since he made that move away from Chelsea, I think over five years ago now. He's been in-and-around the England squad on a number of occasions as well.

"He's an experienced player, and if Eddie Howe wants to strengthen his defensive options, Tomori I'm sure is somebody who will figure on his wanted list."

Who else is targeting Tomori amid Newcastle links?

Tomori recently insisted that he remains content at Milan, but a sale seems possible as he enters the last year of his current contract, with extension talks yet to be held.

He may need a move back to England to bolster his international ambitions, with just six Three Lions caps earned since his debut in 2019.

While Coventry and Newcastle are touted to make moves, sources have also revealed to Football Insider that Crystal Palace admire Tomori and could try to sign him this summer.

New Eagles boss Pierre Sage wants to add to his centre-back depth as Maxence Lacroix is heavily linked with an exit.
