Newcastle should now move for 23-year-old who Jurgen Klopp labelled 'outstanding'
Newcastle United boss Matthias Jaissle would be wise to listen to ex-Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in upcoming transfer windows.
The Magpies are sitting eighth in the Premier League table after five games, defying the odds after a brutal summer at St James' Park.
Newcastle lost Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Kieran Trippier and Anthony Gordon, leading to predictions of Premier League relegation.
Jaissle has worked wonders so far, though, managing to get Yoane Wissa and Anthony Elanga firing, while also keeping hold of Lewis Hall.
The former Al Ahli manager could see his squad go from strength to strength in the January window as well, with PIF showing plenty of ambition.
Yasin Ayari and Alex Baena are already two players appreciated by the Magpies, but the scouts could dive into French football in a few months instead.
Jurgen Klopp had huge hopes for Newcastle target
Mick Brown revealed to Football Insider in February that Newcastle had joined the race to sign Lyon's Tyler Morton, and that interest has not gone away.
Now, the former scout believes that the Magpies are already working on a deal for 23-year-old midfielder, who left Liverpool in August 2025.
Since then, he has become a key player over in France, making 53 appearances for Lyon, including games in the Champions League and Europa League.
The majority of fans at Anfield would probably take him back in a heartbeat, so Jaissle needs to listen to his national counterpart in January.
Back in November 2021, Klopp said that should Morton build up his physique, he would be a "brilliant footballer" with an "outstanding" football brain.
That is a very big compliment from one of the Premier League's best managers, and one that Newcastle simply have to act on.
Who else could Matthias Jaissle sign in January?
While the early weeks at St James' Park have been positive, there is still room for improvement, especially in the team's current depth.
Ayari and Baena would both be incredible additions in January, but the full-back positions are the ideal starting point for Jaissle.
Feyenoord's Givairo Read was heavily linked with Nottingham Forest over the summer, but in the end, he stayed in the Netherlands.
Newcastle could take full advantage by signing the 20-year-old, who already has four assists in seven Eredivisie games this season.
