Newcastle United next manager: Arne Slot odds slashed to replace Eddie Howe in new twist
Newcastle United could soon make a change in the dugout as Arne Slot’s chances of replacing Eddie Howe are increased by the bookmakers.
Howe led Newcastle to a disappointing 2025-26 campaign as they failed to win a cup competition and came 12th in the Premier League.
There have been doubts raised over whether he is still the right man to take the club into next season, with a clear improvement needed to return to European qualification.
Several candidates have been touted to succeed the 48-year-old at St James’ Park, with Slot now on the lookout for his next job after being sacked by Liverpool last week.
It remains to be seen whether PIF seek to appoint a new Newcastle manager soon, but the Dutchman looks to be a leading candidate if they do want to make a change.
Arne Slot sees odds slashed to 4/1 to be the next Newcastle boss
Liverpool confirmed on Saturday that Slot had been relieved of his duties as their manager with immediate effect after finishing fifth in the top flight.
His stocks were very high this time last year after he had guided the Reds to their second Premier League title at a relative canter in his first season in charge.
The Dutchman orchestrated the most expensive transfer window for a single club in Premier League history last summer, but was unable to gel his new additions together as Liverpool’s form suffered throughout 2025-26.
With doubts remaining around Howe’s future at Newcastle, one of the top UK bookmakers has shortened Slot’s odds from 8/1 to the 4/1 second-favourite to succeed him on Tyneside soon.
Who else is in the running to be Newcastle’s next boss?
Sources previously revealed to Football Insider that Andoni Iraola was keen to take over as Newcastle’s new manager, but he has now take over at Liverpool after Slot’s departure.
Departing Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is the current leading contender to be the next Magpies manager, at 2/1 odds with a top UK bookmaker.
Roberto Mancini is third-favourite behind the Austrian and Slot, at odds of 8/1, while Kieran McKenna and Frank Lampard are each priced at 10/1.
Xavi Hernandez, Thomas Frank (both 12/1), Cesc Fabregas, Mauricio Pochettino and Jurgen Klopp (each 16/1) make up the other top contenders with the bookies.
