Newcastle's plan for Ousmane Diabate revealed after 'medical' update
Newcastle United could be about to add another young and exciting prospect to the squad in the shape of Ousmane Diabate.
The 18-year-old midfielder, currently of Turkish side Genclerbirligi, has emerged as a target for Newcastle, with a deal already imminent.
Despite playing just eight senior games for the Turkish club, he has caught the attention of the Premier League outfit, who are currently undergoing a huge change.
A new manager, an entirely new identification, and an interesting transfer tactic during the summer so far, choosing to trust youth over experience.
The Magpies lost Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, replacing the trio with Aladji Bamba, 20, Sean Steur, 18, and Bazoumana Toure, 20.
Jaissle now has access to an extremely young squad, and another inexperienced figure has emerged as a target ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
Ousmane Diabate set for Newcastle United deal
Very little is known about Diabate right now, other than his eight first-team appearances at club level and one single cap for the Guinea national team.
Yet, it would appear that those at St James' Park already have the player's future mapped out ahead of his arrival this summer.
Taking to X, journalist Joel Bland, after stating that Diabate's transfer was "subject to [a] medical," revealed the Magpies' plans for his development.
He wrote: "Coming in from Genclerbirligi, Turkish side. Believe he's staying there this season to continue his development."
Newcastle fans will have to keep a close eye on the Turkish Super Lig in 2026-27, with suggestions that he'll be loaned straight back for his own sake.
Who else could Matthias Jaissle sign this summer?
Understandbly, supporters are worried about the current state of the team, given the total lack of experience after several outgoings.
It remains to be seen if goalkeeper Nick Pope will even be given a chance to retain his position, while Kieran Trippier is no longer at the club.
Likely as more of a dependable figure in the middle of the park, Newcastle are eyeing up Manchester City's Nico Gonzalez, though he is still only 24.
Nicolas Seiwald is also a target, a midfielder with Champions League and Europa League experience, but even he is only 25 years of age.
Jaissle should be desperate for some older, wiser figures before the window shuts. As for Diabate, supporters will likely be a little disappointed.
