Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe is believed to be under threat of being sacked as Andoni Iraola is installed as the bookmakers' favourite to replace him at St James' Park.

According to a new report from the Daily Mail's Craig Hope, Howe's long-term future at Newcastle is in doubt, and there is no guarantee that he will still be their manager come the start of next season.

The Magpies have struggled in the Premier League this season and are currently at risk of missing out on European qualification altogether, let alone the Champions League.

Howe's side recently crashed out of the UCL and exited the FA Cup too, so they need a great end to the season to lift themselves into the top half and the European places.

It remains to be seen who Newcastle's next manager could be if the 48-year-old is dismissed, with Iraola currently leading the market with two of the UK's biggest bookmakers.

Iraola's own future at Bournemouth is up in the air right now as he edges ever closer to the end of his contract in June.

Preliminary discussions between him and their hierarchy have already been held, and sources have told Football Insider that Bournemouth are confident of tying Iraola down to a new deal before the season ends.

He has been linked to the likes of Man United, Athletic Club and Crystal Palace in recent times, but could well be tempted to join Newcastle if they want to change their manager this summer.

Two of the UK's leading bookies have priced him at 4/1 to be the Magpies' boss for the first game of the 2026-27 Premier League season, which is above any other manager aside from Howe himself.

Who else is in contention to be Newcastle's next manager?

Howe remains odds-on to retain his position until August at the very least, but those odds could drift in the coming days as doubts emerge and talk of replacements ramp up.

After Iraola, Oliver Glasner is priced at 6/1 to be the Magpies' boss at the start of next term as he prepares to leave Crystal Palace in May.

Xavi Hernandez and Marco Silva are next in the running at odds of 8/1 respectively, while Tottenham-linked Roberto De Zerbi and Kieran McKenna each come in at 13/1.
