Nick Woltemade among three Newcastle stars who will thrive under Matthias Jaissle

Matthias Jaissle is set to replace Eddie Howe as Newcastle United manager in the coming days in a move that came as an initial surprise.

It was reported on Thursday that the Englishman had decided to step down at St James' Park after nearly five years in charge.

Jaissle has been lined up as his successor, and is expected to take charge of the squad in Spain as they fly out for pre-season.

The 38-year-old has been in charge of Al-Ahli for three years, where he has led his side to the AFC Champions League twice.

Howe had been under huge pressure at Newcastle at the end of the season having led his side to a 12th-placed finish, but all sides had agree to continue.

However, a combination of factors, including the departures of several key players this summer, has resulted in the 48-year-old's decision to walk away.

Nick Woltemade and Will Osula to thrive under Matthias Jaissle

Among the happier Newcastle players to have received news of Howe's departure will have been Nick Woltemade.

The 24-year-old arrived at St James' Park last summer in a £69million deal and started brilliantly, scoring four goals in his first five Premier League games.

Just four more would follow for the remainder of the season, however, and Howe appeared to constantly be experimenting with his position.

Will Osula's situation is slightly different. The 22-year-old only made his way into the team in the latter half of the season, scoring six Premier League goals in nine appearances to end the campaign.

Nonetheless, both strikers will be happy to hear that forwards tend to explode under Jaissle. In 93 games under the German, Ivan Toney has netted 72 goals.

Former Newcastle target Benjamin Sesko, who emerged under Jaissle at Salzburg, scored 54 goals in 99 games before moving on to RB Leipzig.

Bazoumana Toure may be perfect for Jaissle

Clearly, it is attackers who seem to benefit most from Jaissle's football. New Newcastle arrival Bazoumana Toure may also be on the right end of the appointment.

The 20-year-old scored five goals and provided nine assists in Bundesliga last season and there is huge excitement surrounding him.

And he will have the guidance of a manager with experience of leading the early stages of Noah Okafor and Karim Adeyemi's careers, who both thrived under him.

This summer has been one of massive uncertainty for Newcastle, but no matter how fearful, the promise of a fresh start always carries hope.
