Oliver Glasner is the firm favourite to take over Newcastle United amid growing pressure on Eddie Howe.

The Austrian left Crystal Palace after winning the Conference League last month, and has been linked with several jobs.

AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen are both in the market for new managers, but there is a feeling that the 51-year-old is keen to stay in England.

Newcastle will have the chance to hire the transformative Glasner and the odds suggest they may, but the move will require immediate action.

Howe has retained the backing of his superiors, so far, but there may well be a time limit on his tenure.

Football Insider exclusively revealed in April that Newcastle have shortlisted Glasner if they are to replace Howe.

The 48-year-old has rightly earned plenty of faith at St James' Park for his work over the last five years, but the season has felt disastrous.

Howe's team finished fifth last season and won the Carabao Cup, but a following trophy-less season that saw them finish 12th has prompted questions of Newcastle's manager.

Decision-makers appear to have given him the benefit of the doubt, for now, but things can change very quickly.

Arne Slot looked to have retained Liverpool's support, before a sudden change of heart saw him sacked and replaced by Andoni Iraola.

Newcastle fans have been calling for change, too, and it does feel like a summer that demands at St James' Park

Anthony Gordon has left the club to join Barcelona in a £69m deal, and several other big names are departing.

One major bookmaker has made Glasner the 2/1 favourite to take over at Newcastle, closely followed by Slot (4/1) and Roberto Mancini (8/1).

How would Newcastle set up under Glasner?

Glasner's Crystal Palace usually lined up with a back-three, with a flat-four midfield and a trio in attack.

Those two central midfielders are absolutely key, and at St James' Park, those roles would likely be performed by Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.

Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento would likely be the perfect candidates for the wing-back positions, while a front three is more complicated.

Glasner could well opt for Nick Woltemade, Yoane Wissa and Will Osula all together, with the former two having played behind the striker before.
