Sean Steur reacts as Newcastle exit confirmed for rising star
Sean Steur has issued a reaction on social media after Newcastle United confirmed the exit of goalkeeper Aidan Harris.
Steur has struggled to make his mark at Newcastle since arriving from Ajax for around £23million in the summer.
The 18-year-old has been limited to just two Premier League starts from five appearances despite the Magpies' inconsistent form.
He played well at the base of midfield in their 2-1 win over Hull City before the last international break, but has failed to appear since returning from Netherlands under-21 duty.
Fans have been left confused by Matthias Jaissle's treatment of youngster Steur, who was signed with high hopes of making an immediate impact on Tyneside following their midfield exodus.
The teenager could soon see his future plunged into doubt if he continues to struggle for game time, with one fellow rising star leaving the club in the last 24 hours.
Sean Steur reaches out to Aidan Harris on Instagram after Newcastle loan exit
Steur featured 25 times for Ajax last season as he enjoyed a first real breakthrough into senior football.
The Magpies clearly invested in his potential over the summer, and Jaissle is sure to offer him more chances to shine as the campaign progresses.
The same cannot be said for youth keeper Harris, who is yet to be given a chance at first-team level in his short career thus far.
The 19-year-old has been a regular for Newcastle's under-18 and under-21 sides in recent seasons, appearing on the bench for the senior team on six separate occasions.
It was announced on Thursday that Harris has joined local sixth-tier side Hebburn Town on loan, with age-mate and first-team star Steur leaving a like on his new club's Instagram post.
Alan Shearer has had his say on Steur's lack of recent Newcastle minutes
Steur can certainly feel hard done by at his lack of recent action, especially considering what Newcastle's other midfielders served up across both of their last two games after he shone on the creative front for Ajax last season.
The 18-year-old was among the best-performing Eredivisie midfielders in 2025-26 for line-breaking passes (6.19) per 90, chances created (1.19) per 90 and successful pass percentage (89.7).
He also created two chances in his last start for the Magpies as they beat Hull, while also making more passes into the final third (5) than any other Newcastle midfielder.
Club legend Alan Shearer admitted on the latest Rest Is Football podcast that he would have liked to see the 18-year-old utilised against Aston Villa last time out after Jaissle's side had fallen behind.
He said: "Those two performances would really worry me. There was a lack of everything, they don't look solid and I was missing that killer pass. I said to you about the youngster Sean Steur, who could play that killer pass. He chose not to bring him on, and it was a worrying performance on Saturday."
