Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle is set to make a decision on Jacob Murphy's future at the club before the summer window closes, sources have told Football Insider.

Murphy's future at St James' Park is up in the air after he entered the last year of his contract in June.

The Magpies stalwart was a favourite of Eddie Howe in their near five years working together, so his departure has also heightened rumours of Murphy potentially being on his way out this summer.

Everton are being linked with a move for his services as David Moyes looks to bolster his depth on both flanks.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, new Magpies boss Jaissle will have the final say on whether Murphy should be sold before the end of the current window.

The German is set for a busy few weeks of key decisions after taking training with his new squad for the first time on Wednesday.

Jacob Murphy could leave Newcastle before the end of the window

Murphy signed a new contract on Tyneside last summer after an impressive 2024-25, but only agreed to improve his terms rather than extend his deal past 2027.

The 31-year-old winger saw his impact diminish last season, as he only registered four goals and five assists in 46 appearances across all competitions.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "Newcastle have got a decision to make on Jacob Murphy's future. He is into the final year of his contract at St James' Park, so they won't really want to let him run that down and leave on a free transfer.

"It's up in the air right now. Newcastle won't be rushing into any decisions on Murphy, they'll wait and see what the new manager decides."

What is the latest on Nick Pope leaving Newcastle?

Another long-serving Newcastle star could be leaving the club this month as Pope is linked away.

The 34-year-old suffered a drop-off in form last term as he kept seven clean sheets in 27 league games and made four errors leading to a goal across all competitions.

Several clubs are believed to be interested in his services, but sources have revealed to Football Insider that Celtic are yet to make contact over a move for Pope after they were linked last week.

His boyhood club Ipswich Town are believed to be considering a move, with Lukas Hornicek and Ewen Jaouen arriving at St James' Park to push him down the pecking order this summer
