Matthias Jaissle's start to life as Newcastle United boss has been far more positive than many predicted for the 2026-27 campaign.

After losing several high-profile stars, including Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali, the Magpies were tipped to be relegated from the Premier League.

After five games, however, Newcastle are sitting ninth in the table, having beaten Tottenham Hotspur and Hull City, as well as drawing with Liverpool.

Jaissle appears have gotten the best out of Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa, while Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Lukas Hornicek have been fine additions.

Not everything has been positive, though, especially the embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Leeds United at Elland Road, as well as several key injuries.

With all of this context, Football Insider has taken a look at three players who have suffered as a result of the Magpies' early success this term.

Tino Livramento

Unsurprisingly, Tino Livramento is the first name on the list, despite his ability on the ball and huge interest in his signature.

The 23-year-old has suffered yet another injury, this one suffered on international duty with England, having just returned from a previous setback.

Nick Pope

Hornicek has given Newcastle fresh hope in defence, but that has ultimately meant Nick Pope falling down the pecking order at St James' Park.

The 34-year-old has been a long-term servant for quite some time, but this season could be the beginning of the end of the experienced shot-stopper.

Will Osula

This season was supposed to be the one for Will Osula, having earned his spot in the team at the back end of the 2025-26 campaign.

However, once again, injuries are playing a huge role, and it has meant that the 23-year-old hasn't appeared since the 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

Big things were expected from the Denmark international this term. Sadly, it just hasn't worked out, and now Wissa has stolen the striker spot.
