Manchester City are going to be put off signing Newcastle defender Tino Livramento following his latest injury blow.

Livramento has had to withdraw from England’s World Cup squad due to a calf injury, meaning he will not play any part at the tournament.

It follows a five-week lay off with a thigh injury at the end of the Premier League season and Livramento’s latest blow could hinder his preparations for the next campaign.

The 23-year-old is expected to be sidelined for six weeks, meaning Man City could look at other targets this summer in the full-back position.

Man City have held Livramento in high regard, and they looked like they would make a move this summer, in a deal which could have reached up to £70million.

Livramento only has two years left on his contract at Newcastle, and he has not shown any desire to sign a new deal to commit his future to the Magpies.

Man City should be concerned by Tino Livramento injury record

Overall, Livramento missed 36 games for Newcastle this season in all competitions, and has a history of unfortunate injury setbacks.

Man City will want to see that Livramento has overcome his latest injury before spending a huge chunk of their transfer budget on the defender.

Livramento has now not played a full 90 minutes since mid-April, and has only completed a match three times this year.

Newcastle could look to convince Livramento to sign a new contract again if transfer interest does cool down.

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, had been in contact with an agent and believed Livramento was “nailed on” to sign for Man City this summer.

Who could Manchester City target instead?

Reports indicate that Man City may have already identified a replacement for Livramento this summer.

Also wanted by Chelsea, Atalanta right-back Marco Palestra has emerged on Man City’s radar in recent days.

21-year-old Palestra spent this season on loan at Genoa, appearing in all but one of their Serie A matches.

A cheaper alternative to Livramento, Palestra could provide back-up to Matheus Nunes, who has been preferred over Rico Lewis in the role.
