Liam Delap 'open' to Newcastle transfer after Chelsea axe

Chelsea striker Liam Delap is "open" to the idea of a move to Newcastle United, sources have told Football Insider.

The Magpies' long-term interest in the frontman remains, and Chelsea have made it clear that he has no long-term future at Stamford Bridge.

Everton and Nottingham Forest are also keen on the 23-year-old, who has made it clear that he wants to remain in the Premier League.

Sources have indicated that a move to St James' Park would appeal to Delap, and he would not be put off by the existing competition in the Newcastle squad.

Xabi Alonso does not see the youngster as part of his long-term plans, and recently left him out of Chelsea's final pre-season game against Real Sociedad.

Delap is almost certain to leave Stamford Bridge in the coming weeks, and Newcastle are a firm part of the race to sign him.

Newcastle held a clear interest in Delap before he opted to join Chelsea last summer, and that hasn't changed in the last 12 months.

The young frontman endured a difficult campaign in front of goal last time out, as he managed just one goal in his 28 Premier League appearances.

Chelsea are already convinced that they have seen enough of the former Ipswich man, but they are determined to secure a fee that boosts their own coffers.

Recent reports have suggested that Delap could cost as much as £50million for any of the interested clubs this summer.

The ability to agree a fee with Chelsea is currently providing a "sticking point" for all three potential suitors.

Newcastle and Delap are both keen to make a move to the North East happen, but it may depend on whether Chelsea are willing to budge from their lofty demands.

Tottenham to 'reluctantly' accept Newcastle bid

Football Insider revealed last weekend that Tottenham are increasingly resigned to losing Lucas Bergvall this summer, after bids from both Newcastle and Forest.

The Magpies saw their opening offer of £46m knocked back, with the Lilywhites undertsood to be holding out for £60m.

However, with time running out in the summer window, Tottenham would seriously consider any second offer, given Bergvall's desire to move away.

Roberto De Zerbi will not push the midfielder out the door, but the club are prepared to "reluctantly" accept an increased offer.
