Mika Godts of Ajax might have already presented an answer to the rumours surrounding Anthony Gordon and a Newcastle United exit this summer.

The 20-year-old winger has notched 15 goals and 12 assists in all competitions this season, sailing far above the club's second-most creative player at the Johan Cruijff Arena.

His 15th came against Heracles on Saturday, 11 April, sprinting onto a long ball from Jorthy Mokio, before lobbing the ball over the oncoming goalkeeper, opening the scoring after just 16 minutes.

It is unclear exactly what Newcastle's transfer chiefs have planned ahead of the summer, but with a mid-table Premier League finish most likely, it is imperative that Eddie Howe gets his signings right.

Mika Godts continues to be linked with Newcastle United move

This will not be the first summer window that the Magpies have been linked with the Belgian international, with the player also notching 14 goal involvements during the 2024-25 campaign.

At just 20 years of age, Godts has most of Europe keeping tabs on him, but Howe's side have a real desire to go after his signature, with Gordon being heavily linked with a move away.

It is, of course, not the first time that their star winger has been tipped to leave St James' Park, and the run-up to this summer transfer window is absolutely no different.

Keith Wyness told Football Insider that Newcastle "don't want to keep" Gordon amid strong links to Liverpool, while Arsenal have also been great admirers of the England international.

Who is Ajax's star man and what's his situation at the club?

Godts has been with Ajax since February 2023, first starting out with the youth teams, before being called up and making over a century of appearances for the first team.

He still has three years remaining on his current contract in the Netherlands, but if his reported £11,154-a-week salary is to be believed, he would be a significantly cheaper alternative to Gordon.

The young winger loves to cut onto his stronger right foot from the left flank, but he's also not afraid to take on his full-back and deliver a dangerous cross into the middle, as proven by his assists.

Gordon leaving St James' Park just seems inevitable, so when that happens, the Magpies need to have a plan in place to secure his replacement. Those behind the scenes must seriously consider Godts.
