Newcastle United are set to complete the signing of talented shotstopper Lukas Hornicek from Braga.

Reports emerged on Wednesday that the Magpies have triggered the 24-year-old goalkeeper’s £25.7million release clause.

Hornicek has accepted the move, and is expected to sign a contract with Newcastle on Wednesday.

As a result, the goalkeeper is now expected to miss Braga’s Europa Conference League qualifier against Zeleznicar Pancevo on Thursday.

Newcastle have been hunting for a new first-team goalkeeper for months to take over from Nick Pope.

If all goes through, Hornicek will become the Magpies’ fifth major signing this summer.

Lukas Hornicek set to end Newcastle’s hunt for a new goalkeeper

A new starting goalkeeper had clearly become a priority for Eddie Howe this summer.

Pope’s quality had evidently declined at St James’ Park, which helped contribute to the club’s disappointing campaign last season.

However, if Diario do Minho’s report is true, the Magpies’ hunt for a new keeper should be about to end.

Hornicek has proved himself to be a top keeper at Braga in recent years and played a major role in their run to the Europa League semi-finals last season.

However, it remains to be seen if he will be a hit in the Premier League if Newcastle do confirm the deal in the coming days.

Who else are Newcastle looking to sign this summer?

Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Newcastle have submitted a proposal to AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori.

The centre-back has emerged as a target for the Magpies this month as Howe looks to tighten up his backline.

The 28-year-old has just one year remaining on his contract at San Siro and will be available for a cut-price deal.

Multiple sides have been linked with the England international this summer, including newly-promoted Coventry City.

However, Newcastle have now accelerated their interest in the defender as they look to beat their rivals and secure his signature this summer.

The 28-year-old has been a regular for AC Milan for years and made 37 appearances across all competitions during the 2025-26 campaign.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Newcastle are able to win the race to Tomari this summer as they eye multiple additions going into the final weeks of the transfer window.
