Newcastle could be about to land Sven Botman upgrade by signing defender with 89% and 64% stats
Newcastle United could be on track for a big upgrade on Sven Botman before the transfer window closes after reports emerged that they have placed a bid for Galatasaray’s Wilfried Singo.
Reports emerged on Tuesday that the Magpies have placed a £34.2million offer for the 25-year-old centre-back.
Galatasaray are in no rush to make a decision on the bid, with the Ivory Coast international contracted until 2030.
However, if all goes through, it could help strengthen one of many weak links in Newcastle’s squad.
It has become evident over the course of pre-season that Botman is no longer good enough to play regularly at the Magpies.
Luckily, Singo’s stats in the Super Lig last season show that he could prove to be an excellent upgrade.
What are Wilfried Singo’s stats?
If Sabah’s report via Fanatik is true, Newcastle could have a fantastic player on their hands.
Last season, the defender made 19 appearances in the Super Lig as he helped the club retain the title.
While an injury midway through the campaign prevented him from making further appearances, when he did play, his stats were excellent.
According to Fotmob on 18 August, he averaged an 89.1 per cent passing accuracy, 6.65 duels won with a 64.2 per cent overall success rate, 2.75 aerial duels won with a 60.4 per cent overall success rate, 1.61 tackles, 1.33 interceptions, 5.13 recoveries, 0.28 blocked shots, and 0.19 times possession was won in the final third per 90 minutes in the Super Lig.
These were some of the best defensive stats in the league, and shows what an impact he could make in the Premier League if these can be replicated.
How do Singo’s stats compare to Sven Botman’s?
When comparing these to Botman’s Singo is superior in multiple areas.
According to Fotmob, the Newcastle centre-back was averaging 87.1 per cent passing accuracy, 6.41 duels won with a 65.8 per cent overall success rate, 4.26 aerial duels won with a 64.4 per cent overall success rate, 1.08 tackles, 1.32 interceptions, 4.31 recoveries, 1.27 blocked shots and 0.05 times possession was won in the final third per 90 minutes in the Premier League.
Therefore, with Singo being better in many defensive stats, the Ivory Coast international could prove to be a substantial upgrade this summer.
However, it remains to be seen if Newcastle can get the transfer over the line in the coming weeks.
