Newcastle fans all say the same thing as offer 'submitted' for Archie Gray
Newcastle United fans are adamant that they do not want Tottenham Hotspur youngster Archie Gray to sign for the club this summer.
The Magpies have reportedly bid for the 20-year-old midfielder this summer, which has been rejected.
No agreement has been reached yet, but Newcastle remain interested in the Under-21 England international.
However, many of the St James’ Park faithful feel that Gray is no better than the midfielders they already have.
Newcastle already boast the likes of Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes on their books, and there is a fear that this could just be a waste of money.
Gray was one of the few players to impress at Spurs last season, as he made 24 appearances in the Premier League.
Newcastle United fans do not want Archie Gray to sign
So far this summer, Newcastle’s transfer window has been underwhelming.
The club has already lost out on Victor Munoz, and multiple players are being linked away from St James’ Park.
With upgrades to the attack heavily needed, fans cannot understand why Gray is being targeted at present.
After being part of a Tottenham team that finished 17th in the Premier League in back-to-back seasons, many Magpies fans have taken to X to demand that the club not make a second bid for the 20-year-old after Fabrizio Romano’s report.
How good is Gray?
According to Fotmob on 1 July, Gray has a very mixed set of stats.
While he does average 0.12 goals, a 0.09 xG and 0.12 assists per 90 minutes in the Premier League, there is a lot to be concerned about.
The midfielder often struggles on the ball, averaging a passing completion of 83.1 per cent, while also creating just 0.49 chances and performing 0.43 successful dribbles per game.
On top of this, he is poor defensively, averaging 0.67 tackles, 1.03 interceptions, 0.24 blocked shots and 3.47 recoveries per 90 minutes.
However, given his age, he has plenty of time to improve and could still become a real asset to any Premier League club.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Newcastle make a second bid for the midfielder this summer as they look to return to the Champions League.
