Newcastle United have been linked with an ambitious move for midfield maestro Arthur Atta in recent days.

The Udinese star has been one of the top performers in the Serie A this campaign, with the Magpies reportedly in pole position to secure his signature.

The 23-year-old made 32 appearances in the Italian top-flight in the 2025-26 season, which helped the club secure a top-half finish.

Now, reports have emerged that Newcastle are planning on replacing Sandro Tonali with Atta, with the Italian international increasingly likely to leave.

Eddie Howe’s side will have to fork out £34.5million to sign the upcoming star, but this could prove to be a bargain.

Upon examining Atta’s stats, everything indicates that the midfielder could be the perfect Tonali successor.

If Tonali were to depart Newcastle this summer, it would be a massive loss for the club.

The midfielder is one of the best players in the Premier League, and his quality was on show throughout this season despite the club’s poor Premier League finish.

Therefore, Newcastle face a highly difficult task in replacing Tonali if he is to leave. However, every sign suggests that Atta is capable of achieving this, after Messaggero Veneto on 9 June reported the Magpies’ interest.

According to Fotmob on 10 June, the Udinese star is averaging, 0.18 goals, 2.00 shots, 0.11 assists, 1.19 chances created, 2.21 successful dribbles, 0.95 tackles and 1.23 clearances per 90 minutes in the Serie A this season.

In comparison, Tonali is averaging, 0.00 goals, 1.31 shots, 0.07 assists, 1.13 chances created, 0.67 successful dribbles, 1.24 tackles and 1.31 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League this campaign.

Based on this, Atta is far better in attack, and isn’t too far away defensively compared to the Newcastle midfielder.

As a result, there is every chance that he can replace Tonali’s quality for the 2026-27 campaign.

How much will Newcastle demand for Tonali?

Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Newcastle will demand £80m to part with Tonali this summer.

Arsenal are one of many clubs interested in luring the midfielder away from St James’ Park.

Tonali is reportedly considering his future amid the interest surrounding him this summer.

Newcastle have no interest in letting Tonali part after also losing Anthony Gordon last month, but it remains to be seen if they can keep hold of their star man.
