Newcastle United have never needed to get Yoane Wissa off their wage bill more than now, with a move for Dusan Vlahovic seemingly on the cards.

The Magpies are looking for a way to offload their struggling forward ahead of next season, but have struggled to find interest in him so far after a season that brought just one Premier League goal.

The former Brentford man made the move to the North East for an eye-watering £55million last summer, but Eddie Howe and Co. have already accepted that they will need to take a sizeable loss to move him on.

Vlahovic has been on the radar as a dream option at St James' Park, but Newcastle have now been given fresh hope that a move for the Serbian could soon become reality.

The 26-year-old recently confirmed that he will leave Juventus as a free agent upon the expiry of his contract this summer, with the likes of Chelsea and Barcelona both showing an interest.

The Tynesiders may not have fancied their chances of beating some of Europe's elite clubs to a deal, but it now appears that Vlahovic could be open to joining them.

Newcastle will need truly huge contract for Dusan Vlahovic

Vlahovic has become one of the most prolific goal scorers in Serie A in recent years, and is now ready for a fresh challenge.

The opportunity to move to the Premier League looks set to be on the table for him this summer, and that could come at Newcastle.

The Daily Record have now reported that the former Fiorentina hitman is "seriously considering" the idea of a move to St James', something which would have been very unexpected just a few months ago.

However, Newcastle will be under no illusions that they will need to put down a truly lucrative contract offer if they are to have any hope of tempting him.

The Magpies saw several of their biggest signings fail to pay off for them in 2025-26, not least Wissa, who is in danger of becoming dead wood within the squad.

The DR Congo international will be eating up a significant wage in the north East, and it is now vital that they shift that as quickly as possible in order to go all out for Vlahovic.

Fail to do that, and they may lack the financial muscle to win the race for the Serbian, which could turn into a major regret later down the line.

Newcastle to have no 'major issue' in Dusan Vlahovic deal: 'You're saving £50m'

Newcastle could be set to 'save £50m' with Vlahovic deal

Former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson recently told Football Insider that Newcastle could "save £50million" by signing Vlahovic this summer.

The football finance expert made it clear that the frontman is likely worth in excess of the £50m mark in today's market, and the Magpies should expect to pay a premium on his wages due to not having to fork out a transfer fee.

Borson suggested that Vlahovic's camp could potentially demand up to an extra £100,000-a-week on his weekly wages, but also acknowledged that it would still be a 'good deal" for Newcastle.

However, that would still take a major financial commitment, especially considering they do not have European football of any sort for next term, and they must make adjustments in order to accommodate that.
