Newcastle make approach for RB Leipzig star – journalist
Newcastle United have reportedly made an enquiry for RB Leipzig’s Nicolas Seiwald in what could be a sensational late-window deal.
The Magpies are interested in bringing in the 25-year-old defensive midfielder, with Matthias Jaissle a big fan of the player.
Nevertheless, nothing concrete has happened so far, despite the Austria international being on the Premier League outfit’s radar.
RB Leipzig also do not want to lose Seiwald this summer, and he is firmly part of their plans for the 2026-27 campaign.
Last season, the midfielder made 33 appearances in the Bundesliga and picked up two assists.
This helped the club finish third in the table and qualify for the Champions League.
Newcastle United eye Nicolas Seiwald deal
It is obvious that Newcastle are in desperate need of a new midfielder this summer.
The club is yet to sufficiently replace either Sandro Tonali or Bruno Guimaraes, who moved to Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, respectively.
Now, with the Premier League season less than a week away, the Magpies find themselves short on quality, with just two weeks of the transfer window left.
As a result, Philipp Hinze’s report will help ease some of the St James’ Park faithful’s nerves.
Siewald has been a top player in Germany for years, and helped the club win the Super Cup in 2023.
However, it remains to be seen if the Magpies can complete a deal for the midfielder before the transfer window slams shut.
What other business could Newcastle complete this summer?
Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are resigned to losing Lucas Bergvall this summer if Newcastle meet their valuation.
The midfielder has handed in a transfer request at Spurs as he looks to get move first-team football elsewhere.
Newcastle saw an offer worth a reported £46million turned down by the North London club last month.
However, the Magpies are now preparing another bid before the transfer window slams shut at the beginning of September.
This will be accepted by Tottenham if they are content with the size of the offer from the Magpies.
Newcastle do still face competition from Nottingham Forest, who remain interested in the youngster, and previously saw a bid rejected by Spurs earlier in the window.
