Newcastle United are reportedly preparing an offer for Felix Nmecha this summer as they look to prize him away from Borussia Dortmund.

Reports emerged on Thursday that the Magpies’ pursuit of the 25-year-old had intensified.

Talks have already taken place with the players’ representatives ahead of a potential move this summer.

Dortmund are keen to keep hold of the Germany international, and are only willing to negotiate a transfer fee between £85.6million and £102.7m.

If this asking price is met, Nmecha would become Newcastle’s record signing, which is currently held by Nick Woltemade for his £69m arrival last summer.

Newcastle are currently searching for a replacement for Bruno Guimaraes, who is set to be announced as an Arsenal player in the coming days.

Newcastle eye Felix Nmecha transfer

Nmecha could prove to be a tricky transfer to pull off if Newcastle decide to pursue the midfielder this summer.

Sky Sports’ report makes it clear that Dortmund do not want the 25-year-old to leave the club unless a big fee comes their way.

If the Magpies elected to wait another year, they could sign Nmecha for £68.5m next summer, but this risks allowing other clubs to enter the race for the star.

Nevertheless, if Newcastle are able to sign the midfielder this summer, he would become their sixth first-team capture of the transfer window, and the first under new manager Matthias Jaissle.

However, it remains to be seen if the Magpies do push to sign the German international this summer as they look to make much-needed upgrades to their squad after a disappointing campaign last season.

Who else are Newcastle looking to sign this summer?

Another player that Newcastle have been linked with in recent days is Richard Rios.

The Magpies are long-term admirers of the Benfica star and are keen to make a move for him.

However, they face competition for his services, with the midfielder also attracting interest from Napoli.

Last season, he heavily impressed at Benfica, as he scored eight goals and provided six assists in 45 appearances.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen who Newcastle look to bring in his summer, with a new midfielder clearly a top priority at St James’ Park ahead of the new campaign.
