Curtis Jones is likely ready to push for a Liverpool exit this summer, and Newcastle United could be the main beneficiaries.

The 25-year-old slipped down the pecking order significantly during the 2025-26 campaign, starting just 18 Premier League games, but Arne Slot is no longer at Anfield.

While that may appear like a positive for the academy product, who has often been forced to play out of position, it could swing his future completely the opposite way. This summer could be a turning point.

Newcastle's transfer chiefs are already believed to be working extremely hard ahead of the summer window opening, and securing a deal for the Reds' midfielder could be a new priority.

Newcastle United can provide a fresh start for Curtis Jones

Back at St James' Park, there is absolutely no certainty that Eddie Howe will go into next season with Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali as his midfield trio.

In fact, it would appear that the latter is far more likely to leave than he is to stay, with rumours flying around before the transfer window has even opened.

Joe Willock doesn't appear to have a future with the Magpies either, so it makes perfect sense to go after Jones' signature, who has seen his career stagnate and suffer at Anfield.

Although reports suggest that Andoni Iraola is set to replace Slot, the uncertainty provides the best chance for any of these players to discover a fresh start, even if his heart does lie with the Reds.

Who else is interested in the talented midfielder?

Newcastle are unlikely to be the only club keeping tabs on the situation.

Aston Villa are also eyeing up Jones, clearly appreciated by Unai Emery, but after the latest Liverpool player to arrive and struggle at Villa Park, it might not be the best destination.

Harvey Elliott was wrapped up in an impossible situation during the 2025-26 campaign, basically wasting a year of his career out on loan, and Jones won't want more of the same away from Anfield.

That is highly unlikely to happen with Howe in charge. Whether he's commanding the midfield or out of position again due to injuries, the Magpies will show Jones a lot of love and loyalty if he signs.
