Newcastle United will be hoping for a quick Yoane Wissa sale this summer, but his performances for the Democratic Republic of Congo continue to leave much to be desired.

The striker once again struggled as the African side lost 2-1 to Chile in their final match before the 2026 World Cup.

The Magpies had been hoping to get the 29-year-old off the wage bill this summer after a terrible first campaign at St James’ Park.

However, his form shows no sign of returning, with Wissa making little to no impact in the defeat to Chile.

Newcastle would have hoped that the attacker’s form would return for the summer tournament to boost interest.

Yet, with the World Cup set to start on Thursday, there appears little chance of this happening.

Wissa’s form for Newcastle was simply appalling in the 2025-26 campaign.

The striker managed just one Premier League goal, with his lack of firepower helping to contribute to a disappointing campaign which ended with no European football.

Now, this has continued with the Democratic Republic of Congo, with Fotmob on 9 June showcasing how poor he was.

Wissa managed just 13 touches throughout the match and did not create a single chance or have a shot. On top of this, he completed just two passes and did not win any of his aerial duels or complete any of his attempted crosses.

This is an awful sign for Newcastle as it damages any hopes of a quick sale this summer, with interest likely to plummet if this form continues into the World Cup.

Why is Wissa’s exit important at Newcastle this summer?

Football Insider exclusively revealed that Newcastle will only sign a new striker once Wissa has departed.

A new attacker is key at the Magpies, with Alexander Isak clearly not replaced properly.

On top of this, Anthony Gordon’s recent departure has taken even more goals out of Newcastle’s front line.

Newcastle know that they need a big addition if they are to replace this quality, but are waiting for Wissa’s sale as the PIF clearly feel more comfortable shelling out such a big fee once they have a little more money coming in.
