Ross Wilson is looking to follow up the Ewen Jaouen deal with further quick transfers at Newcastle United amid pressure from above.

The Magpies are expected to enjoy a hugely busy summer window, as they look to rebuild after a poor season saw them miss out on European football this term.

The Tynesiders spent big last summer but didn't get the reward that they would have hoped with the likes of Nick Woltemade, Yoane Wissa and Anthony Elanga.

Wilson is under pressure from the club's PIF ownership to produce better results this time around, and the sporting director is already working on several more additions.

Eddie Howe and the recruitment chief have both been under the spotlight in recent months, as the team laboured to their lowest league finish since the Steve Bruce era.

Jaouen's announcement as a Newcastle player now appears to be imminent, but there could be another set of signings just around the corner.

Newcastle 'busy' working on fresh deals in last 24 hours

Jaouen's move to Newcastle is now a formality, as they finally look set to land the new number one goalkeeper that they desired throughout the season.

The 20-year-old is set to move from French side Reims and pen a four-year deal on Tyneside, as he is about to become the first signing of the summer for Howe's men.

However, he could soon be followed by further additions to the squad, with Chronicle Live reporting that club chiefs have been locked in "high-level talks in the last 24 hours" in a bid to add more new faces to the squad.

It is understood that staff are "busy" working on deals both on the footballing and commercial side of the club, as Newcastle ramp up their preparations for 2026-27.

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness told Football Insider last week that he expects the North East outfit to be one of the Premier League's busiest clubs in the market this summer.

That suggestion is already being backed up by the work taking place behind the scenes at St James' Park, as Wilson appears to be planning deals with a real purpose.

Wyness also told Football Insider that Wilson is "under the spotlight" from the Newcastle hierarchy, after last summer's shoddy transfer business.

The former boardroom man made it clear that PIF are "watching very closely" to see how this summer's window plans out, as there are clearly concerns regarding the transfer chief's recent work.

Wilson is currently undet the microscope alongside Howe, and if the club get this window wrong as well, then he could easily pay with his job.

With that in mind, the former Nottingham Forest man appears to be working two-fold behind the scenes to get deals in place.
