Johan Manzambi is keen on the chance to move to Newcastle United this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Freiburg attacking midfielder has emerged as a top target for the Magpies in recent weeks, and the player himself is also hoping to make the move happen.

The 20-year-old sees the chance to prove himself in the Premier League as hugely appealing, after a season that saw him shine in the Bundesliga.

Sources say that Freiburg won't stand in the way of their starlet getting his big move, provided that Eddie Howe and Co. can match their £42million valuation.

Newcastle have money to spend this summer after the lucrative sales of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, and Manzambi is one of their main priorities in the market at the moment.

The Switzerland international has shone at the World Cup so far, with three goals and two assists to his name.

Newcastle not fearful of Man United hijack

Manzambi's progress has been drastic across the last 12 months, to the point where he now has multiple Premier League clubs tracking him.

Manchester United have been long-term admirers of the youngster, but are not currently in a position to be able to pounce for him this summer.

The Red Devils have Manzambi on their shortlist of midfield targets, but currently have several options ahead of him in their summer thinking.

As a result, Newcastle are understood to have no concerns about a potential hijack from Old Trafford in the coming weeks, as they work towards a deal.

The Tynesiders have already laid the "groundwork" in their pursuit of the Swiss star, and are now ready to press towards getting their move over the line.

Newcastle ready to sanction big signing spree

Football Insider revealed last weekend that Newcastle are planning a flurry of big signings after their pair of big-name exits in the early part of the window.

The Magpies are ready to be "proactive" in the market after netting £170m in sales at the start of the summer, and are expected to spend big from here onwards.

Newcastle's sales have left them with the "headroom" to target big-money additions of their own before the new campaign gets underway.

Howe has been keen to strengthen his group across the board after a disappointing season last term, and the club are now ready to oblige.
