Sources: Newcastle and Nottingham Forest submitting new Lucas Bergvall offers

Newcastle United are preparing to submit a second formal bid for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall, sources have told Football Insider.

Nottingham Forest are also expected to return to the negotiating table with a second offer, with the 20-year-old still "intent" on leaving North London.

The pair of interested parties are both waiting in the wings for further indication that Bergvall's exit is imminent.

Roberto De Zerbi recently admitted that he would like the youngster to stay at Spurs, but cannot promise him a starting role, and sources have indicated that his words have done little to alter Bergvall's stance.

Tottenham have already knocked back bids from both Newcastle and Forest in recent weeks, and they remain the "frontrunners" to secure the deal.

De Zerbi is reluctantly ready to lose Bergvall, who has made it clear since the start of the summer that he wants to move elsewhere.

De Zerbi has desperately tried to convince Bergvall to stay put, but his efforts look set to go in vain.

The Italian boss has admitted that he misused the Sweden international in the latter stages of the 2025-26 campaign, and that has put the writing on the wall for his future.

Despite the boss' desire to keep Bergvall, he is also adamant that he does not want players in his squad who would rather be elsewhere.

That has kept Newcastle and Forest interested, and it is now a case of which club is willing to meet Spurs' minimum £50million asking price.

Newcastle's initial bid came in higher than Forest's at £46m, but it was still swiftly knocked back by the Tottenham hierarchy.

Bergvall has made his desire to move clear, but Spurs are still trying to play hardball over the money that they receive.

Former Tottenham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider at the end of July that he expects Newcastle to utimately win the race for Bergvall.

The Magpies veiw the starlet as the ideal replacement for Sandro Tonali, who joined Spurs for a total £100m package earlier in the window.

Brown believes that the Tynesiders wouldn't be deterred by a potential bidding war, and feels that they have greater spending power than Forest at the moment.

That now looks set to be exacerbated even further, with Bruno Guimaraes closing in on a £75m move to Arsenal.
