Sources: Newcastle turn attention to Matias Fernandez-Pardo deal
Newcastle United are keeping tabs on Lille sensation Matias Fernandez-Pardo, sources have told Football Insider.
The Magpies are in the market for a winger this summer transfer window, and the 21-year-old is one of several players on their radar.
Newcastle may face competition with Liverpool for Fernandez-Pardo, who have the winger as a back-up plan if they are unable to secure the signing of Yan Diomande this summer.
The Magpies are keen to ensure that the Reds do not hijack another deal after the club lost out on Victor Munoz earlier this month.
Fernandez-Pardo is currently away on international duty with Belgium, and has played two matches so far in the 2026 World Cup.
In the 2025-26 campaign, the winger scored eight times and picked up five assists in 29 Ligue 1 matches for Lille.
How good is Matias Fernandez-Pardo?
As Newcastle search for a replacement for Anthony Gordon, who has departed for Barcelona, Fernandez-Pardo is a solid choice to be his successor.
According to Fotmob on 26 June, he has many eye-catching stats from the 2025-26 Ligue 1 campaign, with his passing ability a particular standout.
Per 90 minutes, he was averaging, 0.30 goals, a 0.33 xG, 0.19 assists, 0.18 xA, 1.36 chances created, 0.45 successful crosses,1.36 successful dribbles and 6.96 touches in the opposition box.
This no doubt helped attract the attention of Newcastle, with the winger proving to be a consistent threat in attack.
However, it remains to be seen if the Magpies put in a bid for Fernandez-Pardo in an attempt to bring him into the club.
Who else are Newcastle chasing this summer?
Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Newcastle can afford to splash £43million on target Florian Balogun this summer transfer window.
The Monaco striker has been on fire so far this World Cup, and has netted two goals in the USA’s opening three matches.
The departure of Gordon for £69.3m means that Eddie Howe has funds to work with, and the club can afford to bring in Balogun regardless of whether Yoane Wissa is sold.
The Magpies are desperate for reinforcements up top this summer, after a disappointing 2025-26 campaign that saw the club fail to qualify for Europe.
