Spain manager Luis de la Fuente will have Newcastle fans excited by potential Victor Munoz deal
Newcastle United has submitted a bid for wonderkid Victor Munoz, who is much-loved by Spain’s manager, Luis de la Fuente.
Reports have emerged that the Magpies are pushing to sign the Osasuna winger this summer after they saw an offer close to £35.5million rejected.
Newcastle see the 22-year-old as an ideal replacement for Anthony Gordon, but the La Liga outfit are standing firm, with his release clause set at £35.5m.
Munoz has been included in Spain’s squad for the 2026 World Cup and received heaps of praise from manager de la Fuente in the build-up to the tournament as he highlighted his potential.
The winger helped Osasuna retain their La Liga status this season as he scored six goals and picked up two assists.
He will now be looking to impress in the USA, Mexico and Canada as Newcastle look to get their hands on the next star emerging from Spain.
Luis de la Fuente: Victor Munoz is ready to compete at the highest level
Munoz only signed for Osasuna last summer for just £4.3m.
Previously, the youngster had come through Real Madrid’s academy, and he is now starting to unlock his potential.
Now, ahead of the 2026 World Cup, De La Fuente could not hold back his praise for Munoz, which will no doubt excite Newcastle fans.
When asked if he could one day play for Real Madrid again, the manager told Infobae on 26 May: "Could he play for Real Madrid? I think he's a lad with tremendous footballing potential, and he's shown with the national team, at the highest international level, that he's ready to compete at that level too. I'm sure he'll make a great impression."
Therefore, it is of little surprise that the report from Noticias de Navarra states that Newcastle are pushing to complete the signing of Munoz.
How good is Munoz?
Munoz’s stats in La Liga this season were certainly eye-catching, which has no doubt helped to attract Newcastle’s interest.
According to Fotmob on 10 June, the winger was averaging 0.20 goals, 2.73 shots, 0.93 chances created, 2.53 successful dribbles and 4.83 touches in the opposition box per 90 minutes.
These are extremely impressive given his age and the fact that he was playing for a team fighting for relegation this campaign.
However, it remains to be seen if the Magpies are able to get a deal over the line, with his performance in the World Cup having the potential to attract more potential suitors.
