Why Lewis Hall move to Man United would be the final nail in Newcastle's coffin

Lewis Hall's departure this summer would be a brutal punch to the gut for Newcastle United and the signal for a complete rebuild.

Manchester United are reportedly exploring a move for the 21-year-old, who has three years remaining on his contract.

This summer has been an incredibly difficult one for the Magpies, who have lost several key players and now, their manager.

It has been widely reported that Eddie Howe has stepped down as Newcastle manager and is to be replaced by Matthias Jaissle, although the club are yet to officially confirm.

Club captain Bruno Guimaraes is also close to leaving for Arsenal, with talks over a fee in the region of £80million edging towards a conclusion.

The Brazilian will follow Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon out the door, and even more could leave this summer.

Lewis Hall exit would be killer blow

Hall initially joined Newcastle in 2023 on loan, later signing permanently in a deal worth around £35m from Chelsea.

The left-back was a superb talent and a serious coup for the Magpies, demonstrating their rising status in the Premier League.

The defender admitted after joining in 2023, that he and his family are Newcastle fans.

"To now be here at Newcastle, the club that I've supported since I was a kid, I'm honoured and very proud to wear this shirt," Hall said.

Last season, the 21-year-old seemed to take a step up despite the struggles of his team, emerging among the most exciting young defenders in the Premier League.

Throughout the season, he remained among Howe's most consistent players and it was seen as a significant snub when Thomas Tuchel left him out of the England squad.

Hall's exit, in the knowledge that he is a Newcastle fan, would signify a massive problem at St James' Park.

Eddie Howe exit may push Hall away

It is thought that Howe's exit was seen as extra motivation for Guimaraes to leave, although he had already requested a move.

Nonetheless, it is clear that the Englishman was loved within the Newcastle squad, and there is little doubt that his departure will have unsettled several stars.

One of them may be Hall, with the defender having praised him in March. "I’ve still got a long way to go to where I want to be and where I believe I can be, but I think he’s done so much to help me be in the position I am now," he said.

"I think he’s shown a lot of belief in me, and he’s taught me a lot of the defensive side of my game, which I think was the main area I needed to improve.”
