Wilfried Singo to bring exactly what Newcastle are missing after game-defining World Cup moment
Wilfried Singo of Galatasaray is once again being linked with a switch to the Premier League, and Newcastle United are admirers.
It is far from the first time that the centre-half has been scouted by the Magpies, having been touted for a move to St James' Park last summer as well.
Instead of joining an English club, however, he ended up in Turkey with Galatasaray, where he has sinced notched two goals and two assists in 29 appearances across all competitions.
His time in the Turkish Super Lig hasn't been the most positive of experiences, but that has done little to dampen his confidence on the international stage.
Singo now has 34 caps for the Ivory Coast national team, and has become a regular, now leading his country into the 2026 World Cup.
Not only that, but he has already supplied a game-winning assist for Manchester United's Amad Diallo, who scored Ivory Coast's only goal against Ecuador on Monday, 15 June.
Eddie Howe must add star passer to his backline
In the 90th minute, the 25-year-old defender made an incredible run down the right-hand side, before picking out his teammate in the middle with a pin-point pass.
With five assists in his last two seasons, he is no stranger to threading the needle or breaking the line, someone that Howe would have been desperate for throughout 2025-26.
In the Premier League, Bruno Guimaraes led the way for assists, but with just five in total, there was a serious lack of creativity at St James' Park.
Of course, Howe can't fully depend on his defenders to make the difference in the final third, but with runs like Singo's, he would bring an entirely new character to the squad.
What is Newcastle United's current defensive situation?
The Magpies' boss certainly doesn't have any centre-backs who can create the same kind of magic out of thin air, even with Fabian Schar signing a new deal.
With Kieran Trippier gone, the main creative sources in defence are Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento, but of whom present entirely different problems for Newcastle.
Given that Singo can also play full-back, the transfer interest in both Hall and Livramento could be softened. His talents in the final third would be just as appreciated.
Malick Thiaw and Sven Botman both suffer from injuries, which adds layers to Newcastle's current issues, while Dan Burn appears to be slipping down the pecking order.
All fingers point towards the Magpies going all-out for Singo, and Howe would be foolish not to splash out for the 25-year-old Ivorian.
