Worse than Lukas Hornicek, Newcastle should axe player who lost possession 13x vs Coventry
Matthias Jaissle's Newcastle United endured an incredibly frustrating night against Coventry City at the CBS Arena.
Sven Botman's goal was the only positive moment for the Magpies on Monday, 12 October, as the centre-back swept home from range.
His effort was no more than a consolation goal, with Frank Lampard's side netting four goals through Jack Rudoni, Sidiki Cherif, Ellis Simms and Stephen Mfuni.
Despite quite a difficult start to the 2026-27 campaign for the Sky Blues, they only needed six minutes to open the scoring, doing so from the penalty spot.
And it was Lukas Hornicek's mistake that led to Cherif being brought down in the area, with Rudoni converting from 12 yards just moments later.
It was just a tough day at the office for the visitors in general, but one player in particular found it even more difficult than his teammates.
Matias Fernandez-Pardo causes frustrations vs Coventry
After signing across the dotted line in a £51million deal during the summer, Newcastle fans expected big things from Matias Fernandez-Pardo.
With pace, sharp shooting, pin-point passing and a good football IQ, there was no reason why anyone would have to worry about him.
Five games into his career at St James' Park, though, and many feel that the Magpies have wasted a lot of money to secure the 21-year-old Belgian.
He made no tackles, was dispossess three times, lost 66 per cent of his ground duels, and committed a foul, all while wasting several opportunities.
The biggest of them all was when a cross was delivered right to his feet, and rather than lashing it home, he dummied it to a Coventry defender.
Matthias Jaissle already under pressure
After the defeat, the Magpies are floundering in 11th in the Premier League table, and tempers already flaring within the fanbase.
Some have even suggested the return of Eddie Howe. It's only been six games, though, so it's difficult to see a change being made by PIF.
Jaissle is still learning in the Premier League, and it will take him time to iron out the creases. So far, his tactics have been pretty sound, but Coventry was a very big blow.
