Yasin Ayari's 0.71 and 67% stats show why Newcastle must strike late deal
Newcastle United and Matthias Jaissle may not be finished in the summer transfer window just yet.
Those behind the scenes at St James' Park have certainly gone in a different direction, signing youth over experience after losing several stars.
Understandably, many feel that Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon are irreplaceable, especially in the current market.
While Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba appear to be exciting prospects, the Magpies need experience ahead of the 2026-27, and they need it fast.
Earlier in the window, Football Insider understood that Newcastle were "ready to pounce" for Brighton midfielder Yasin Ayari, but no move was made.
Now, with just days left of the summer window, Jaissle needs to get a move on if he is to add another important figure to the middle of the park.
Yasin Ayari's stats speak volumes in Europe
Ayari has emerged as one of the most important players at the Amex Stadium, so it is unlikely to come at a cheap cost for Newcastle.
The 22-year-old has just helped the Seagulls to a goalless draw against Tromso in the Europa Conference League qualifiers on Thursday, 20 August.
There is no doubt that he was one of the best players on the pitch. With a total of five shots, he amassed an xG of 0.71 and created one big chance [FotMob].
From the base of midfield, Ayari missed two big chances, completed 67 per cent of his dribbles, the most on the pitch, and took nine touches in the opposition box.
The Sweden international even made four recoveries, while throwing himself into a total of 13 duels, as Brighton secured an important draw.
Who else could leave Newcastle this window?
Due to his creativity and work rate, he might be the closest that Newcastle are going to get as a direct replacement for Guimaraes and Tonali.
Already, Jaissle has been tipped, courtesy of Tim Sherwood, to be one of the first Premier League managers sacked this season.
That would certainly be possible if the rumours around Nick Woltemade are true, though a growing minority are ready to cash in already.
Lewis Hall's future will be up in the air until the window closes, and his departure would certainly leave the squad stretched until January.
