Zadok Yohanna: Everything Newcastle fans need to know after 'bid' submitted
Zadok Yohanna is on Newcastle United’s radar as Eddie Howe aims to bolster his attacking options this summer.
Newcastle are in the market for several winger signings in the summer transfer window after a disappointing 2025-26 campaign.
Anthony Gordon has already departed for Barcelona, while Harvey Barnes is being targeted by several other Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa.
According to Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, Newcastle have a concrete interest in AIK starlet Yohanna, alongside Brighton.
Newcastle’s transfer plans are ramping up following Gordon’s departure, and Football Insider have looked at everything that supporters need to know about their potential next signing.
Who is Zadok Yohanna?
Yohanna is just 18-years-old, but could be 19 by the time he joins the Magpies as his birthday is coming up on 29 June.
He was born and raised in Bauchi, Nigeria, and made his way through the youth ranks of the Ikon Allah Football Academy before moving to AIK last year.
Yohanna featured 11 times on the right-wing for the Swedish side in his first season at the club, and scored three goals in the Svenska Cupen while making waves at senior level.
The left-footed star has seen his progress accelerate over the last two months since the start of the new Allsvenskan campaign, with two goals and assists each in seven league games so far.
His current contract runs until 2029, and Swedish journalist Anel Advic has reported that the Magpies have now submitted a bid of around £20.7m to AIK for his services.
Several other clubs have also been linked to his signature, with Brighton also in talks with AIK, while RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund are each believed to be keen.
What have notable Swedish football figures said about Yohanna?
Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Newcastle could accept an offer for Barnes this summer, with Yohanna seemingly lined up as a possible replacement.
He has become a viral sensation in Sweden and on social media, and did win a maiden international call-up to the Nigeria senior team last week but was blocked from leaving by AIK due to their own fixture schedule.
Degerfors IF manager and AIK legend, Henok Goitom, recently praised Yohanna’s performance after his side faced the teenager, saying: “Yohanna is an exceptional player. I love watching him play. He plays with a street football style.”
AIK captain Alexander Milosevic did not hold back after witnessing Yohanna’s first Allsvenskan goal in April, saying: “He plays like he’s been here 10 years. The decision-making, the work rate, he doesn’t look 18.”
The 18-year-old himself has been humble as his career prepares to reach new heights, insisting that his “focus is completely on AIK” and he does not take notice of high-profile scouts watching his games.
It remains to be seen whether he does make the move to St James' this summer, but Yohanna is clearly a talent to keep an eye on regardless.
