Newcastle United’s valuation could rocket to £1bn – PIF ‘have no desire to sell’

Newcastle United’s Saudi ownership will have no desire to sell the club right now after pulling the plug on other projects.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Vila and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness speaking exclusively to Football Insider, as the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) could cut their support to LIV Golf.

It comes after they sold their 70% share in Saudi club Al-Hilal for £276million, as the war in the Middle East continues to have an effect on their investments.

PIF’s commitment to Newcastle has been questioned, despite the club having recently posted record revenue under their ownership in their latest financial accounts.

One key issue that has yet to advance under the ownership is Newcastle’s stadium plans, which could either see St James’ Park expanded or a new ground built on Leazes Park.

PIF’s Newcastle investment has been ‘successful’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Newcastle could be valued at £1billion with a new stadium.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks there is no desire from the ownership to sell Newcastle.

Total Turnover£335.3m
Matchday Day Income£51.6m
Profit on Disposal Assets£133.2m
Commercial Revenue£123m

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Newcastle is not the biggest investment the PIF have got.

“Certainly it’s a very small investment. It has shown that it’s increased in value since they bought it. They bought it at a very cheap price.

“If I remember, it was something like about £230m. And so the club’s probably valued right now at £700m to £800m at the very least.

“With the new stadium, it’ll be over a billion, no doubt about it. So overall, that would be looked at as a pretty successful investment and not the biggest one. So I don’t see any desire to get rid of that at all right now.”

Newcastle in pursuit of new forward

Sources have told Football Insider, that Newcastle have ambitious plans to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United this summer.

Rashford, who is on loan at Barcelona this season, has no plans to return to Man United, but the Spanish club may not be willing to trigger the £26m buy clause in his loan deal.

That could leave the 28-year-old looking for a new club, and whilst Newcastle are interested, their plans could falter due to having no European football on Tyneside next season.
