Newcastle to table bid for No9 with 28 PL goals after leapfrogging Everton in hunt - report

By Richard Parks

Newcastle United are ready to table a bid to sign Bournemouth striker Josh King in the summer, according to a report.

The Sun claim that Magpies manager Rafa Benitez wants a new No9 and has made the 26-year-old a priority after he added more craft to his game.

It is said that Benitez is hoping to get the green light from owner Mike Ashley to seal a deal for the £20million-rated spearhead.

The Sun report that Newcastle will put together a bid to be tabled to Bournemouth as well as a contract offer to King.

It is believed that the forward could be tempted into leaving the Cherries if the deal is right after he was also pursued by Everton in the January window before they landed Cenk Tosun.

King has made 30 appearances for Eddie Howe’s side this season, scoring seven goals, while supplying three assists.

Football Insider verdict:

King has certainly added a touch of finesse to a game this same that had been based upon pace and power. Bournemouth boss Howe has demonstrated this by utilising the 26-year-old Norway international is a second striker role this season rather than the spearhead role where he has played most of his career. Nevertheless, King is more goalscorer than creator, and his haul of 28 Premier League goals from 97 matches is a decent haul for a player at a mid-table club. Is he football royalty? No. Is he better than the current roster of Newcastle strikers? Yes. King would be a smart signing, and Newcastle are in hot pursuit after leapfrogging Everton.
