Manchester City and Liverpool have been placed on alert as Jurgen Klopp prepares to bring down the curtain on his Borussia Dormund reign.

Dortmund have called a news conference for 1.30pm local time on Wednesday, when they are expected to announce the departure of their 47-year-old manager at the end of the season. Representatives of Klopp have already received a number of enquiries for his services since news of his exit broke across Germany media outlets on Wednesday.

sources have learned that City are among a cluster of clubs interested in holding talks with Klopp as they explore alternatives to Manuel Pellegrini, who is likely to be sacked in the summer. As reported by

While the Premier League champions wait on a response from Ancelotti, who is expected to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season, they will be encouraged by Klopp's availability and are likely to regard him as a solid back-up plan to the experienced Italian. Liverpool could also be interested in contacting Klopp, as Brendan Rodgers' position could hinge on whether his team win the FA Cup or claw back a four-point deficit on City to clinch a top-four Premier League spot. Klopp arrived from Mainz seven years ago and has defied expectations to win the Bundesliga title twice, the German Cup and reached the Champions League final against Bayern Munich in 2013, a game they lost 2-1. German newspaper Bild suggest that Thomas Tuchel, who replaced Klopp at Mainz, is the frontrunner to take over in the summer.
