Republic of Ireland fans are calling for John O'Shea to leave his role as assistant manager after a new twist involving Celtic star Liam Scales.

Ireland's Nations League campaign saw them suffer back-to-back 2-0 defeats at the Aviva Stadium against England and Greece.

This comes following the appointment of Heimir Hallgrimsson, with interim boss O'Shea stepping back to become his assistant.

With frustrations beginning to bubble already, the team selection has been questioned, with Robbie Brady's continued involvement leaving fans raging.

The 32-year-old Preston North End star has started both games at left-back despite struggling against England, and fans are now calling for changes to be made.

With Scales sitting on the bench, the Celtic defender has been tipped as the natural replacement for Brady, but was an unused substitute across both fixtures.

Scales is a natural centre-back, and looks set to start there for Celtic when their Champions League campaign kicks off on 18 September, but has proven to be capable of filling in at left-back.

O'Shea has come under fire as a result of the selection issues, with many suggesting the assistant has played a role in deciding the first team due to his familiarity with the squad.

The former Manchester United man is now facing the brunt of the pressure from supporters, with Scales and Brady at the heart of their issues.

After the starting lineup was released ahead of the clash with Greece, fans took to social media to call for Scales' increased involvement in the team.

While Scales was put forward as a possible replacement, it was Brady who was subject to most of the supporters' anger amid calls for O'Shea to lose his position.
