Graeme Murty has agreed to take charge of the Rangers academy again after being sacked as first-team manager, according to a report.

The Daily Record claims that the 43-year-old returned to Auchenhowie on Tuesday and agreed his return to the job he was doing before he was plucked to take charge of the senior team.

New Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has sanctioned the move which will represent an incredible U-turn for Murty.

Football Insider verdict:

It wasn't hard to feel really sorry for Graeme Murty last season. He was given the Rangers manager job in really tough circumstances, did the absolute best he could after being out of his depth, and ended up getting turned on by supporters who wanted him out. That's not to blame the fans either. They can admire the man and still criticise the job he was doing as manager, but you can't help but feel Murty was given a bum hand and played it the only way he could. The fact that he's willing to return to take over the development squad shows that he has no ego and that he loves Rangers. Despite a fairly rough stint as first-team manager, his experience can only help Rangers now, with the development squad set to reap the rewards from his time at the top. We would imagine Rangers fans would be 100% behind the return of the man who was quite happy, and doing a good job at the academy, before he was thrust prematurely into the limelight at Ibrox.
