Alex Neil is set to be sacked by Preston North End, Football Insider can reveal.

His side fell to their fourth defeat in five Championship games against Luton Town on Saturday.

A source has told Football Insider that the Scot is set to leave Deepdale after almost four seasons in charge.

Preston North End

Preston North End have won just twice since the January window closed which saw wholesale changes to the playing staff at Deepdale.

Key players Ben Davies and Ben Pearson were sold to Liverpool and Bournemouth respectively while eight players arrived at the club.

After remaining within touching distances of the play-offs all season, the Lilywhites slumped to 16th, nine points above the relegation places on Saturday.

Speaking after the game, Neil admitted to the press that he was starting to look down the table rather than up.

However, he is now set to leave the club as his Deepdale reign comes to a disappointing end.

After leading the Lancashire outfit to seventh in the Championship in his first season, Neil has not been able to lead Preston to the play-offs.

When football was postponed due to coronavirus last season, they sat in sixth but poor form after the restart saw them fall to ninth.

They have not been able to reach the same heights this term and fans were calling for him to be sacked after North End's 2-0 defeat to Middlesborough.

The club moved to deny rumours of his departure but after a 20th defeat of the season, his fate was sealed.
