Frank McAvennie has urged Celtic to sign another forward in the transfer window if Leigh Griffiths is not part of the plans this season.
The former Hoops and St Mirren striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed that Patryk Klimala is not good enough to be Odsonne Edouard’s deputy after watching him in action twice last week.
The Polish attacker has featured heavily in pre-season and grabbed his first goal for the Bhoys against Nice.
The future of Griffiths, who scored 11 goals in 31 appearances last season, in up in the air after the striker turned up for pre-season overweight.
McAvennie was hopeful that Neil Lennon could resolve the Griffiths situation quickly.
“If Griffiths is not going to be a part of it they need to bring in another,” he told Football Insider.
“The two games in which I saw Klimala last week – no. He scored a good goal but he is not for me. He is not going to score 20-odd goals like Edouard.
“Maybe Lenny needs to put his arm round Griff and say, “Look, I need you.” He scores a lot goals. He will score you 20 goals so I am hoping that can be resolved.
“Leigh number two and Klimala number three is what I’d prefer.”
Lennon, when speaking on whether Griffiths could leave this summer, said: “I’m not even considering that at the minute.
“He’s been coming on but we’ll assess him when we get back.”
