Noel Whelan 'excited' as behind-the-scenes footage emerges from Leeds

Noel Whelan is “excited” by the prospect of Jack Harrison and Junior Firpo linking up on the left-hand side for Leeds United next season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the new Whites ambassador suggested the pair could have a similar impact to Raphinha and Luke Ayling in the previous campaign.

Leeds confirmed the signing of Junior Firpo from Barcelona earlier this month in a deal worth £15.5million including add-ons.

Footage from the club’s YouTube channel on July 13th showed Firpo buddying up in training with Jack Harrison.

The pair are expected to form a new-look left-hand side for Marcelo Bielsa’s side next season, following the confirmed departure of Ezgjan Alioski.

Whelan is excited by the strength in depth the Whites boast ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.

“I’m excited to see Harrison and Firpo play together,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“We have partnerships all over the field. It is all about finding the right combination. It’s important that Firpo and Harrison get to know each others game.

” Just look at what Raphinha and Ayling achieved in one season together. They brought so much energy down that right-hand side. They were fantastic.

“Let’s not count our chickens though, everyone is fighting for a place against Manchester United and there is no guarantees it will be Harrison and Firpo on that side. Whoever is in the best form will start.

“There is battles everywhere for positions. You want a squad that has strength in depth and quality all over and we are getting that right now. Competition is healthy and strong. It will keep everyone on their game.”
