Northampton Town are readying a move for Bromley manager Andy Woodman, sources have told Football Insider.

The 54-year-old ex-goalkeeper, who is a close friend of the owner Kelvin Thomas was a cult hero at the League One side in the late 1990s.

Northampton are on the hunt for a permanent manager ahead of the summer with Colin Calderwood only currently in interim charge for the rest of the campaign.

The Cobblers were officially relegated from League One on Wednesday following what has been a dreadful campaign.

In comparison, Woodman is on the cusp of guiding Bromley to League One football, with the club top of the fourth division with two games remaining.

Who good is Andy Woodman?

Woodman has been in charge of Bromley since 2021, and has overseen some sensational feats.

In 2022, he won the FA Trophy, beating Wrexham 1-0 in the final against the odds.

Two years later, he would oversee further success, guiding Bromley to League Two after beating Solihull Moors in the playoff final on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

It was the first time Bromley had ever experienced EFL football, with Woodman achieving this against the odds.

After guiding the club to an 11^th-place finish last season, he is now on course to win the League Two title and ensure Bromley are playing League One football next season.

As it stands, after managing 274 matches, he boasts a 43.8 win percentage at Bromley.

Could Woodman lead Northampton straight back to League One?

Northampton’s time in League One came to a terrible end on Wednesday.

Seven successive defeats in the division ensured that they fell to the foot of the table, 15 points off AFC Wimbledon in 20^th.

The Cobblers had been a solid outfit in the third tier in their previous two seasons, 14^th and 19^th.

However, a squad overhaul would likely be needed if Northampton are to stand any chance of promotion next season.

Barring a massive collapse in the coming weeks, Woodman has proven that he is capable of taking a team into the third tier against the odds.

Therefore, there is every chance he could repeat the same feat at Northampton next season, providing he is backed in the summer transfer window.
