
Norwich City plot Jay Smith-Sway deal amid Huddersfield Town contract uncertainty
Championship side Norwich City are eyeing a move for Huddersfield Town teenager Jay Smith-Sway, sources have told Football Insider.
Norwich have been keeping tabs on Smith-Sway this season and are ready to firm up their interest with a move for the versatile 19-year-old.
The defender, who can also play in midfield, is into the final year of his contract at Huddersfield and sources have indicated that there have been no talks so far regarding a potential new deal in West Yorkshire.
The starlet is also being watched by the Republic of Ireland ahead of a potential international call-up, after a season that has seen him feature for both Huddersfield and National League side Hartlepool United in a recent loan spell.

The uncertainty surrounding Smith-Sway’s future at Huddersfield has led to strong interest from elsewhere ahead of his contract expiring next summer.
The youngster has impressed after getting his first taste of senior football this season, and already has experience in both the EFL Cup and the EFL Trophy.

Norwich have Smith-Sway firmly on their radar as a strong option for the future, and they are keen to try to win the race to sign him, which is set to develop between several Championship sides.
Football Insider revealed at the start of May that Middlesbrough are chasing Smith-Sway, and are planning to secure his signature before sending him out on loan to continue to develop next term.
Kim Hellberg’s side ultimately missed out on promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs, and are now facing a serious challenge from Norwich on one of their summer transfer targets.
Smith-Sway is highly rated due to his quick progression through the ranks at Huddersfield, and his potential could see him make a move elsewhere ahead of next term.
Canaries battling Ipswich for Northern Irish starlet
Football Insider revealed at the end of February that Norwich are fighting to land Harry Lynch from Bangor this summer, with their bitter rivals Ipswich also admirers of the young defender.
The 20-year-old has already captained the Northern Irish outfit in their top-flight this term, and is being chased by a whole host of English Championship clubs ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Blackburn and Preston have also kept tabs on the starlet’s progress over the course of the campaign, but he still has a year left to run on his current contract.
Nevertheless, Norwich are among the group of teams that are trying to prise the Northern Ireland U19 international away this summer, as they have clearly placed a focus on recruiting up-and-coming talent.
