West Ham should pull the plug on their interest in Rangers defender Connor Goldson.

That is according to Hammers legend Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Premier League club keeping tabs on the centre-back.

This site revealed that West Ham are among multiple clubs south of the border monitoring Goldson ahead of the next transfer window.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that the club believe they can withstand interest in Goldson after valuing him at £6million-plus earlier this year.

But they may need to offer him an extension to his contract, which expires in the summer of 2022.

Asked about West Ham’s interest in Goldson, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I do not think Conor is good enough for the Premier League.

“Every week there is so much pressure on you. Especially at a club like West Ham because they are down there.”

Steven Gerrard is a big admirer of Goldson and does not want to lose him this summer.

He has started the former Brighton man in almost every match since he took charge at Ibrox and he has proved good value for his £3million transfer fee.

Goldson has played a remarkable 105 matches in the two seasons since he signed, including 51 starts in the campaign that was prematurely terminated in March.

In other Rangers news, Ivan Toney has told friends his transfer plans as two Glasgow giants and West Brom race to sign him this summer.
